Handbrake is installed on Computer NPC2. There is an icon on the desktop labeled "Lock Box". This app will hide or unhide the Handbrake App icon. Click on the Lock Box icon. A password is requested. Type in fsc-83402 for the password. Lockbox will open and will display the Handbrake app as the active app. Click on the Handbrake icon on the desktop and Handbrake will open up.
The reason for this security is that patrons in the past have come in to use the app (when it was installed on a bunch of machines) to rip copyrighted DVDs to an .mp4 file. What they do at home with the app is up to them, but SLC Family History Center did not want the app installed on any of our PCs. This is our way of controlling the app access, since it is installed on only one PC.
We have also tried the VLC Media app. It worked intermittently in ripping a DVD, often not encoding sound in the mp4 file. It was just too finicky to work with, even with home recorded DVDs.
