Editing Your Audio Recording

Many folks just want to get their taped recordings digitized and have no desire to do any editing of their audio recording. However, there are some good reasons to do some editing on their digitized recordings. A common one is to improve the audio quality of your recording, things like tape hiss, clicks/snaps, improve volume quality, and such.

Another common reason to edit your recording is to remove parts of the recording that have very little meaning, or to extract the separately discussed stories that may have been told by the person speaking. Maybe there is a song being sung in the person’s native language. By extracting these “events” mentioned above and saving them as separate and smaller digital files, they become more easily shared. Remember also that our current generation is a “soundbyte” one, preferring to listen to smaller segments, than to a full one hour audio tape.

In the next tutorial, we will learn more about how to edit digital audio files.
