In March 2025, the FBI came out with a cautionary bulletin about online services providing “file conversion apps” delivering malware to your computer. The file conversions (like creating or editing PDF files) are actually completed for you. However, malware is packaged up into the PDF file, and then when the PDF file is opened, the malware is installed on the host's computer without the person's knowledge.
